Lost? So am I - A discussion on the heart-pounding television series

What is the Island?
I believe the Island is God. The Island makes the final decisions on who lives and who dies. This is a straight forward explanation on what people believe God does. The evidence is there as well. John Locke comes to the Island paralyzed and is healed. He then leaves the Island and gets injured and is confined to a wheelchair. Ben Linus lives on the Island his whole life and comes down with a tumor in his back. When it comes to life and death, the Island has the final judgment.
Is Everyone from Oceanic 815 Connected?
This question resides around the main points of the show. Is life predestined or do we control our own destiny? Time and time again the characters are presented with opportunities to change the past or future but they decide to continue with what they know. Sayid knows Ben is a "bad" guy. So when they go back in time, he shoots little Ben trying to prevent him from seeing the future. However, everyone else who does not like Ben, come to his aid to save him, thus ensuring the future as they know it. This is why I believe everyone is connected.
What is with the Smoke Monster?
Smokey, better known to fans is a figment of our imagination. Smokey seems to be released when something bad has affected someone's life. Example: When Ben allowed for the soldiers to kill his daughter, it weighed on his mind. He was then summoned to Smokey to release his inner most thoughts and clear him of his misery. Smokey does not judge, he cleanses the soul.
What is the Four-Toed Statue?
We already know that the four-toed statue is of Taweret. She is the Egyptian goddess of birth and protector of youth. Let's dig deeper; we know the statue was around in the 70s; we witnessed it in the fifth season. We also know that the island has had troubles with pregnancy for quite some time. Could it be that when Jacob took the reins of the Island from the Man in Black (MIB), that the MIB was able to limit the number of births? Since we know that Jacob and MIB are playing a "chess" game with each other, we have to assume there are limitations to the big pieces and smaller pieces. Still with me? MIB cannot make a move and Jacob needs to get his pieces from outside the island, which makes it difficult for Jacob to gain control of the island, thus making time and space for MIB to take over of the island.
How will it end?
If I had to guess, I would say the final scene will be similar to the first scene. The opening scene of the series was a pan out of Jack Shephards' eye. In the opener he was on the island and since the beginning of time he has been looking for redemption. This time I think the show will end with a pan out of Christian Shephards' eye, (Jack's Dad), and it will be at Jack's funeral, showing the audience that there is no such thing as redemption.
While Lost has been great and confusing, it certainly has opened people's eyes to a different meaning in life. In a day an age when network television is being filled with distasteful reality television, it is nice to appreciate the mindfulness and creativity that has gone into the making of what many people believe is the greatest show of all-time.

After last night's episode what do you think about old Smokey now? You suggest that he's released when something bad happens to a person and acts as a cleansing agent, but last night the Smoke Monster seems to be an agent of evil. (Continued…)
